Summer Shopping Spree - The Best Deals in Town

Summer Shopping Spree - The Best Deals in Town

When it comes to summer time, summer and shopping go hand in hand. The sidewalk sales and summer collections are out and consumers flock to the great deals. We all continue to search for the best deals and discounts. Many times when it comes to retail, we scout out places beforehand looking at websites and product reviews so we can get the best bang for our buck.

How come we don’t do the same with our finances?

In this week’s article, I will be looking at this summer’s best deals regarding our banking and credit needs.

Deal 1: Need a New Ipad - look no further than RBC

This year Royal Bank of Canada’s promotion is quite interesting. They are offering an Ipad when you open a chequing account, however, with every good deal comes catches. Open a new chequing account and set up either a direct deposit or pre- authorized payments and get yourself a brand new Ipad. Although, this option is only available to new clients – it’s something to look into if you need a new tablet.

Deal 2: Don’t like Ipads? Get your hands on a new Samsung Smart TV

Like Royal Bank, TD also thinks your tech is in need of an upgrade. At TD, if you open a new chequing account, set up bill payments and pre-authorized payments and apply for a new credit card – they will reward you with a free 40’’ TV. If that sounds like too much to you, you can opt for plan B and just open the chequing account and you’ll get a free 28’’ TV. Again this only applies to new customers.

Both look like pretty good deals, with not that much work to get them. If you’re not a client of any bank, 2 tech upgrades for a low cost seem pretty good to me.

Deal 3: Still deciding on a credit card? Look no further than Tangerine

Tangerine just released their long awaited credit card for public use. As a promotion, for the 1st three months that you have the card you get 4% cash back on three select categories (the options are pretty good) and 1% cash back on all other purchases.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t know many people paying a 4% return nowadays. Unlike other offers, this offer lets you customize where you need the returns most. For example, you could pick to get 4% cash back on groceries, gas, and pre-authorized bill payments which generally constitute the majority of a household’s fixed expenses. This offer also applies to new and old customers – new customers also receive additional perks like bonus interest and a sign-up bonus as well!

Deal 4: Don’t know where to stash cash for the short term? Get a great rate with OAKEN

One of the summer’s best promotions is OAKEN financial’s GIC rates. I was relatively surprised when they released them a few weeks ago. For an 18-month GIC the interest is 2.75% which is very generous considering the benchmark rate is 0.5%.

Final thoughts, these are just some of the great summer deals going on. I am sure there will be plenty more throughout the summer.

Happy Shopping!
